Welcome to my website.
This is a work in progress as I gradually add various aspects of my work to it. I also have my Thread of the Spirit blog, which can be accessed via the link below. The blog predates this website and it has more information on my artistic activities and aspects of my philosophy, life and work. At one point, after I began my PhD, I started a second blog dedicated to this strand of my creativity but decided to amalgamate this into my original blog, as my PhD and exhibition work very often coincide.
My creative processes include writing poetry, sometimes set to music and I have great pleasure in performing my poetry in various venues. This sound element of my work plays an important rôle in installations that I have made, a page about which is presently under construction and I have a little selection of poems and music recorded on
Inspired by light, constructed through stitch, my work seeks to give expression to what lies within, inviting the viewer to contemplate possibilities beyond perceived reality; to offer a space in which, simply, to be. Wind of the spirit blows through all and informs all.
“In The Lacemaker (c.1669-71) Vermeer paints a woman stitching. In her work, Eileen Harrisson reverses the polarity: she stitches a ‘painting’. Eileen is able to accumulate thread to form a rich impasto, and to deploy it singly and deftly to accent an area of colour. The works exhibit a surface facture comparable in lustre to that of a heavily worked painting. Whereas paint undergoes a change of state as it either dries or oxidises, stitch does not transmute. It abides. The spiritual allusions proliferate.”
